Learn how to communicate with the world with clay!

Studio Zino is a place where both people with disabilities and non-disabled people can participate in the process of making ceramics together. It is a social enterprise that aims to communicate with the world through clay. The class is led by Zino, a ceramic artist and teacher with a hearing and intellectual disability. You will be able to see the whole process of making ceramics and make your own ceramic flute or cup. Come in and visit Studio Zino for an extraordinary experience and express yourself through clay.

Itinerary
  • 20-minute introduction (introducing Zino Park/performance/lesson on principles of sound)
  • 80-minute hands-on experience (making the ceramic flute or cup/painting the ceramics/trying out the spinning wheel)
  • 20-minute wrap-up (tea and refreshments)

[Important Note for the Ceramic Flute Workshop]
This workshop focuses on the creation experience only, as the full firing and completion process for ceramic flutes take a minimum of two weeks. The ceramics you make on the spinning wheel cannot be taken home. Participants will receive a finished Blue Bird flute crafted by the instructor. While you are welcome to take home the piece you personally made, please understand that as the clay will still be wet, there is a risk of damage or loss of sound quality during transportation.

  • You will be working with 2 flutes - one which you make with clay and dry it afterwards / the other one already baked in the kiln and you will paint on it.
  • Please note that the instructor for the ceramic cup making class will be different from the ceramic flute class.
  • The same price applies to adults and children.
  • Children between 5 ~13 years old may participate with the company of their parents.
  • Children 14 years or older may participate alone.

Please keep in mind

  1. The flute you make will be dried out rather than being baked in the kiln, whereas the one you paint will be baked in the kiln.
  2. The ceramics you make on the spinning wheel cannot be taken home, as the shape of the pottery could change during transportation.

FAQ

The ceramics you make on the spinning wheel cannot be taken home. Participants will receive a finished Blue Bird flute crafted by the instructor. This class is available in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
Children aged 5 to 13 can participate accompanied by a parent. Children 14 years or older can join alone.
The studio provides all materials and tools. We recommend wearing clothes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty, since you'll be working with clay.
