I read a LOT of mixed reviews for dragonhill spa. But I went in with an open mind and enjoyed myself.
It is true that the persons working at the spa dont speak much...their customer service culture is just different than in the U.S. and that's ok. I believe that their intent is not to be rude in any way, americans are just used to excessive kindness.
I recieved my clothing and towels on entering and strolled in doing everything just like the reviews said about shoes and showering.
The spa had MANY differnt rooms and I really enjoyed trying them all. I think 2 were closed for maintenance but the dozen that were open was enough to keep me sweaty and entertained.
The segregation sauna area was simpler than I expected but straight forward as i had read. There are even 3 outdoor hot spas!
The people walk around naked like it's no big deal..and I never felt more comfortable being nude with sp many people in my life.
***side note*** I was concerned about judgment or different treatment because of mynniple piercings..no one gave a dang..not even the aujima who scrubbed me...
I've lived in korea 6 months now so I can speak just enough Korean to not be a douchy american..but I cant understand much. However I was able to determine that they no longer have body scrubs as a stand alone item on the "spa menu" the cheapest option is a scrub and shampoo.for 30,000Won.
However with my rudimentary korean I was able to describe that I just wanted the scrub..no shampoo. I did still have to pay the full 30,000 price.
I personally thought it was much less rough than I expected. I did not experience pain or even that much discomfort. They scrub the same amount I do in the shower so for me it was pretty normal other than the fact that some one else is scrubbing my tushy and what not. So I'm glad i tried it..but a little underwhelmed as I didn't feel glowing or freshly peeled like other people discibed.
As a true tourist I ate the spa eggs and the sugar rice water...all were interesting in their own way...some of the eggs almost taste like ham! Wild!
I stayed the night in the womens only room which filled up around midnight.it wasnt particularly quiet so be prepared for that...and alsonyou sleep on a Korean mat thing...but I cant complain ingot 12 hours of spa/an overnight stay in Seoul for next to nothing!
I think I'll come back once or twice more before I leave korea.
Its definately a great cultural experience for individuals who are seeking to expand their horizons.
