I had the wonderful opportunity to visit these places on October 10-11. We first decided to go do the Andong Moon Boat. We planned to go during the night after the sunset because the lights on the bridge seemed more bright. We went to check in at around 6:30pm and they said that we had to wait until 9:10pm! This was on a Sunday so if you go on the weekend, be prepared to check in before your planned time because there are so many people! But the boat itself was very fun and the view beautiful. You can also connect your music by bluetooth so you can listen to your favorite music while riding! There is a timer for 25 minutes and after that time, you have to drive back to the dock.
After the Moon Boat, we headed to Imcheonggak for our stay. We called in an hour ahead to let them know we were coming (the landlady does not know English). When we arrived, she kindly showed us the bathrooms and our living space. The living space was comfortable and simple for two people. There is no fan/air conditioning/heater, there is just Ondol (heated floors) and small window. The rooms have no locks (just an outer wooden door and an inner sliding door) and the walls are very thin so you cant speak loudly. Also, you are sleeping on the floor with minimal padding and the pillow is made from a hard beaded material with a comforter as a blanket so it might be uncomfortable for some… i only managed to sleep 3-4 hours that night.
For me, the most uncomfortable part was the bathrooms. There are no bathrooms connected to the room itself so you have to walk 10 seconds as they are located outside. It was raining that night so it was a little uncomfortable (and a bit scary?) to walk outside at 3-4 am. Also, there are a total of 3 bathroom doors. The landlady said that if one is being used, you can use the other ones (but as i found out, thats not the case). We booked the Haengrangchae room (which there are three rooms in total next to each other as seen in the last photo). One of those three bathrooms is to be shared among ALL the people booked for the Haengrangchae rooms (total 6 people). The other two bathrooms are for the Duitbang and Araetbang Rooms. There was actual a little argument among the visitors about the bathrooms after i accidentally used another of the bathrooms.
If the bathroom for your room is being used, you have to wait and walk back to your room. There is no hairdryer available and only two small towels were offered. I think it would be better to bring your own soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. There was shampoo in the bathroom but no body soap.
There is an optional breakfast offered for 7500 won at 8am, which was a very simple meal of side dishes. The taste was okay but the portion sizes were quite small. The landlord also explained cultural aspects of eating meals (in korean).
Overall, considering the price of the package, it was well worth it. If you are looking for the cultural experience, then i strongly recommend it ! But if you are expecting comfort, then maybe staying at Imcheonggak would be a little uncomfortable!
