The teacher was so kind, but by my own ignorance, I couldn't understand why we had to paint the fans with specific colors. I'm glad I followed her instructions because I ended up doing a bit of research after. I found out the crowns during the Silla Kingdom were made with gold and jade, thus why we had to paint them those colors!
We finished our painting session with a tea ceremony and rice cakes. Thanks to my very talkative friend, we ended up staying longer than planned, talking with the teacher about her paintings and her art exhibitions. I definitely recommend doing this with a group of friends if you're ever in Gyeongju! You can learn a bit about Korea through art and food, but even more so from the people behind the scenes who want to share their livelihoods with people willing to listen!
