The facts

In Guksu Madang, which is located in the north of Jeju, you can taste Momguk which is a seaweed soup. Mom is a dialect and the original word is Mojaban which is gulfweed. It is easy to find Mom in Jeju Island and it's the reason why Mom is used a lot in Jeju’s food. Mom is kind of plant of the sea. Commonly, There is Mom under the rock. It's very soft.
Long time ago, when Jeju's ancestors gave a banquet, they boiled pork bones to make soup. The first soup dish was for old people and people of high degree. And later, where there weren’t enough soup and pork left for the rest of the people, they added Mom which was easy to find in Jeju, and boiled it. This is how Momguk soup was created. It's made by the ancestor's joys and sorrows.
Momguk's ingredients are onions, boiled pork bones and sour Kimchi which is more fermented than the common Kimchi.
Commonly, Jeju's people eat rice in Momguk soup. It tastes clean and light.
