The facts

Hwaseong Fortress was constructed as an act of filial devotion by Jeongjo, the 22nd king of the Joseon Dynasty (1392~1910), and to strengthen his power, eradicate party conflict, and fortify the southern area of the capital. Construction was started along Mt.Paldalsan in January 1794 and completed in September 1796 under the supervision of Chae Je-gong, a former minister and the magistrate of Yeongjungchubu County.

Hwaseong Fortress forms a nearly full ring around Suwon's old downtown. Usually for Korean fortresses that typically surround either a town or mountain top, Hwaseong does both, running along both flat lowlands and steep hillsides. You can walk the whole thing in about 3 hours, although you'll probably want to spend an entire day exploring.

Be ready to walk a lot, it's a huge fortress but you'll have fun and time flies with the view =) Take a tour, the history of the fortress it's important. Also, enjoy the martial art performance.

It is a traditional place where Korean kings used as fortress in the past. You can see how antique Korean building style is and walk around and enjoy the landscape of it. Sometimes, they even host a show which mimic the situation that happened during the war with horses and people in special clothes
