This tour was AMAZING! We lucked out because our tour guide Sang was a very good guide and an interesting person to talk to, too. In addition to learning the history and context to all the areas that we saw, we also had in-depth discussions about Korean culture today as well. I think this tour was the highlight of my 6 weeks in South Korea. Gyeongju is a city that shouldn't be missed even if you only have a day in Busan, like me.

  • Gyeongju: explore the rich history and culture in the ancient capital of the Silla dynasty

[Busan]

▲ Gamcheon Culture Village
This is a picturesque town known for its brightly painted houses and a maze of twisting alleys. The village was formed by Korean War refugees who constructed their homes in a staircase manner on the slopes of a coastal mountain. The numerous winding alleys are adorned with murals and art installations created by the residents and local artists.

▲ Cheongsapo Railroad (Haeundae Blueline Park Mipo Station)
Cheongsapo Railroad, or Haeundae Blueline Park, is a coastal train station with a fantastic ocean view. The railroads run along the shoreline and provide beautiful views of the East Sea. One of the highlights is the Cheongsapo Daritdol Observatory, a skywalk extending over the sea with a glass-bottomed floor at the end of the observatory.

[Gyeongju]

▲ Daereungwon Tomb Complex
Daereungwon Tomb Complex is a large park filled with ancient Silla-era burial mounds. These grassy tombs, shaped like small hills, hold the remains of kings and nobles. Visitors can even enter Cheonmachong, one of the tombs open to the public, to see artifacts and learn about Silla culture. The peaceful paths and historic atmosphere make it a must-visit in Gyeongju.

▲ Cheomseongdae
Cheomseongdae is the oldest existing astronomical observatory in East Asia, built during the Silla Kingdom. This stone tower was used to observe the stars and forecast the seasons. Its unique bottle-shaped structure, made of 362 stones, symbolizes the days in a lunar year. Set in a peaceful park, it offers a glimpse into Korea's scientific heritage.

▲ Woljeonggyo Bridge
Woljeonggyo Bridge, with its centuries-old history, showcases the brilliance of ancient engineering. Spanning the Woljeongcheon Stream, this historic stone-arched bridge has long been a vital link in Gyeongju's transportation network and remains a symbol of the city's past.

▲ Gyochon Hanok Village
A charming hanok village where you can experience traditional Korean culture. The village is home to the historic house of the Gyeongju Choi clan, as well as teahouses and craft workshops.
