Since 2001, Suwon Worldcup Stadium has been home to Suwon Samsung Bluewings football club, a famous football(soccer) team in Korea. It seats 43,959 people at once.
Since the initial purpose of the stadium was to held Worldcup matches, The size of the stadium is very big. And even it has been more than 10 years since it was built, the facilities are just as good as new. The nickname of this stadium is Bigbird. People call it Bigbird because when seen from above, the stadium looks like a bird stretching its wings. Which also matches with the name of the football team, Bluewings.
One of the most attractiveness that makes people visit the stadium is not only about the football matches. Also the fan culture of the football club is somewhat unique. When player on our team scores a goal, everyone, doesn't matter if you know him/her or not, puts one's arm around another and jump. The enthusiasm and passion of Suwon's fans are not comparable to any other football fans in Korea, and even in the world.
In addition, Suwon Samsung Bluewings is in a rivalry between another renown football club, F.C. Seoul, whose home is Seoul Worldcup Stadium,. It is very interesting to watch fans of each football club compete with one another.
For last, but not least, there is a Worldcup sculpture park circling the edge of stadium, so everyone can visit there, see some of the sculptures there, and take a walk or jog as well. And right next to the ticket box located in the middle of the park, is the convenient store where you can buy foods like fried chickens and also beverages.
