Information

The facts

Gyeonggi English Village provides a short-term immersion English experience in a live-in environment where only English is spoken. The main goal is to promote English learning and to build students' Anglo-American cultural awareness.

The village employs a mixture of foreign native speakers of English and fluent English-speaking Korean staff. They are intended to help students face the particular challenges of speaking English in the Korean context.

The English village concept is to be expanded in the near future as financially it has not been a complete failure. The government will begin to use money for projects like this in the future in addition to sending students on scholarships overseas, despite spending money on short term construction projects.

Interesting place to see how Koreans learn English, but other than that, there's nothing much really interesting going on here. If you're keen on learning English, or have kids, this might be a good place for you.

The construction is really nice. It's good for taking photo and enjoy the atmosphere. There are several shops but mostly sell fast food and drinks. When I visited there, the weather is pretty hot and there were not many indoor place, so it would be great if you bring an umbrella or a cap. Actually, according to guide book, there were performances, however not many people visited, they cancelled :(

This place is also the filming location of the high school in popular K Drama - Boys over Flowers (Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyung Jung).

It is also the filming location for a VCR in SHINee World Concert 2 - Tie a yellow ribbon.
