The facts

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple built in 1376 by the great Buddhist teacher known as Naong during the Goryeo Dynasty is located in the north-east of Busan by the rocky seashore. The Buddhist temple is quite unique as most temples are built in the mountains.

Haesu Gwaneum Daebul (Seawater Great Goddess Buddha), Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, Yongwangdang Shrine, Gulbeop Buddhist Sanctum (enclosed in a cave), and a three-story pagoda with four lions can all be seen looking out over the ocean. There are also four statues of lions which represent joy, anger, sadness and happiness.

Many people visit Haedong Yonggungsa Temple on New Year’s Day to pray for their families wellbeing. The birth of Buddha is celebrated in April and the temple is covered with lanterns.

[Historical Point]: The temple has a long history and belongs to the Goryeo Dynasty in 1376. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was destroyed during the Japanese Occupation of Korea but then reconstructed in 1970.

One of my favourite spots in Busan - been here twice, on both occasions that I've been in Busan! Even if you may not be religious, the scenery from here is absolutely breathtaking. The only downside about this is that it may be a little inaccessible for those who have difficulty walking up and down stairs.

Beautiful place to see and take pictures. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple has both magnificent and beautiful views. Because of this, it is famous place in Busan. I hesitated to go there because it is temple, but this place is not only for Buddhism people!

It’s a very nice place to visit, and easy to reach. Though I do advice to take a taxi instead of the bus as it is faster and if you go with a group cheaper :)
The temple itself is very nice! The view is amazing and the market there is also very nice and colorful! Definitely see it if you have the time ^^
On the way back it is more difficult to get a taxi, so if you can call one its good, otherwise its easy to just take the bus :)
