Gansong Art Museum is the first private art gallery that opened in 1971 in Seoul. It was created by Jeon Hyeong Pil, who fought to collect and preserve Korean art and cultural property during the Japanese colonial period. Gansong is his pen name. Gansong first created the first private art museum Bowhagak in 1938 and this became the Gansong Art Museum in 1966.
Gansong has historical Korean art works (craft, painting, calligraphy, pottery) from Samguk to Choseon dynasty including those of national treasures.
Note that Gangsong Art Museum only opens twice a year (May and October), each for two weeks. Thus, there are usually a lot of visitors during the exhibition weeks.
