The facts

The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is an ethical and sustainable eco-tourism project located about 60km outside of Chiang Mai. They treat their elephants with the upmost respect and prohibit any riding, which can be very traumatizing to the animals.

My favorite thing about this sanctuary was the bathing of the elephants! We all went into the mud to scrub the elephants, and then washed the clean in the nearby river. It was an absolutely incredible experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.

This was the one excursion we splurged on while staying in Chiang Mai, and I would do it again 100x. The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary was a magical experience that families, couples, children, and grown adults will cherish for years to come.

What drew me to this sanctuary was how well the elephants are treated. The guides and workers respect the animals and they prohibit any of the guests to ride them (which can cause trauma to the elephants).

The other thing I loved about this trip was that a shuttle to and from the sanctuary was provided with your ticket. It was a 1.5 hour drive from our condo in Chiang Mai, so we really appreciated not having to find a taxi ourselves!
