Wat Phra Si Sanphet is one of the Buddhist temples located in Ayutthaya province which is an ancient capital of Thailand. It is represented as a symbol of Ayutthaya because of its biggest size among over 400 temples in Ayutthaya. One noticeable fact about this temple is that it is within the royal palace ground so no monks are allowed to reside in this temple.
Many of the structures have been destroyed but there are three main Ceylonese (bell-shaped) pagodas which still boast the glorious past of Ayutthaya. Get an opportunity to see for yourself why this temple is known as the symbol of Ayutthaya and also became a model for Wat Phra Kaew (the Emerald Buddha Temple) in Bangkok.
