The facts

Holy Smoke is the first American style BBQ joint to hit Haebangchon. Only open a few weeks, it's already beginning to become popular with the locals.

From the outside the restaurant looks like a giant shipping container. From the inside it looks like the dark bottom of a barbecue pit, with it's holy red sign glowing like hot coals. There is a large bar and counter at one side, then seating for about 20 inside and another 5 outside on the deck.

Their well priced menu has a great selections of platters, sandwiches, sides and desserts. It's real comforting fatty American barbecue fare. With their pulled pork, smoked brisket, ribs and sausages, it's a real carnivores delight. And with sides like coleslaw, beans, and fries it should keep most diners happy.

The menu offers a good selection of BBQ foods without having too much. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich (6,000), with fries on the side (2,000). There is generous amount of meat served in a soft buttery roll. The meat is unsauced, allowing you to add your own. I find the Franks to pair best with the pulled pork, and with the coleslaw piled in on top this is a damn good sandwich for the price. The meat is tender and juicy but could possibly do with just a touch more flavour within it. Without the BBQ sauce it would be a bit bland though. you can also add fries for an extra 2,000.
