Wonderful show with great staff! You don't have to know Korean to enjoy it (they offer pamphlets/subtitles in English that describe each act). Plus, they feature many different acts during the show, so you won't get bored! You can tell they are really passionate about what they do. Sad that we weren't allowed to take pictures/video. I also recommend visiting the music museum (it's free) in the same plaza; you can learn more about the instruments they use during the performance there.

There is no bad seat in this theatre because of its cosy size, so you really can’t go wrong buying a B seat ticket. The whole performance was impressive and fascinating to me who’s never experienced traditional Korean music and dance live before. I loved how on either side of the stage there were screens displaying the lyrics in both Korean and English, and how I could pick up an English programme and be able to read more about each piece. They truly made this available to English speakers to enjoy as well, which is nice. You can’t record the performance but in the last 5 minutes they let you take photos, so I’ve put them up here in this review. I was amazed at the quality of the performance for the cheapness of the tickets! I’ve already booked my next visit to see the first Saturday of the month special UNESCO listed performances.

I really loved this show. They showed us many different dances and musical instruments from different times. They give information about the next performance through the screens on both sides of the stage: the texts were both in Korean and English. The costumes were amazing too.
They don't allow taking photos normally, only at the last 5 minutes. I'm definitely taking my sisters to this show too.

The show was amazing. They show you a variety of different performances. My favorite performance was "Gayageum Byeongchang 'Gogocheon-byeon', 'Gaja Eoseoga'". At the end of the show, they even give you the allowance to take pictures of the last performance.

The performance mainly includes Korean royal court music that was played for various events in palaces, and folk music performed in rice farming villages to celebrate good harvests. ▲ Ganggangsullae (Korean Circle Dance)
A traditional Korean folk dance from South Jeolla Province, performed by women during Chuseok and Daeboreum. Dancers join hands in a circle, sing "Ganggangsullae," and mimic scenes from rural life. Listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.
▲ Arirang (Korean Folk Song)
A representative Korean folk song embodying the emotions of Han and Heung. With countless regional variations, Arirang is not a single song but a shared cultural expression passed down through generations. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012.
▲ Gayageum Solo (Chimhyangmu)
A solo gayageum performance inspired by the sacred scent of agarwood, once prized in ancient India. The piece evokes a vision of a Silla dancer offering incense before Buddha, symbolizing the kingdom's rich Buddhist culture and connections along the Silk Road. Silla is also known as the region where the gayageum was first developed.

A sacred dance performed during Buddhist ceremonies, especially in Yeonganjae, a key ritual. Dancers express devotion through movements like Beopgochum, Barachum, Nabichum, and Tajuchum. Listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.

Is filming or recording allowed during the Saturday Gugak Concert?
No, any action that infringes copyright, including voice or video recording and live-streaming, is strictly prohibited. If caught, recorded materials will be deleted on site, and the person may be removed from the venue without a refund. Photography is allowed only during the curtain call.
