  • Children ages 3 to 5 are free of charge. Lunch is not included and the order will be made directly to the restaurant according to your needs.
  • Rentals for snow outfits (snow jackets, pants, snow boots) are available for 500 yen each. Please note that there is limited availability for snow outfits, so if you have waterproof, warm clothes fit for snow activities, please bring these with you on the day of the tour.

Arrive at Kanbayashi Onsen and walk up to the trail entrance and along the forest trail (25~30 minutes) into the park.

Arrive at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
- Enjoy watching the wild macaques bathing in the onsen and going about their lives.
3:10pm
Depart the park and walk back out along the forest trail.
4:00pm
Depart for Nagano
5:30pm~6:00pm
Drop off at Nagano Station
*Drop-offs available in Kanbayashi, Shibu, Yudanaka, and Kokusai along the way if required.
  • The itinerary is subject to change depending on local/traffic/weather conditions.
  • Due to weather and road conditions in winter, the tour end time cannot be guaranteed, but should be back at Nagano Station by 6:00pm at the latest.
  • There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park. In such case, an alternative activity will be provided.
  • The tour itinerary can be reversed and you may visit the ski resort in the morning followed by lunch and monkeys in the early afternoon, depending on weather and road conditions, and other factors on the day. This is to provide the best possible experience on the day.
  • While unlikely, should weather or road conditions make it impossible to access Shiga Kogen, the activity will be replaced with a visit to Zenko-ji Temple.

Please keep in mind

  1. There will be a significant amount of walking required (1.6 km one way) to get to and from the Snow Monkey Park, along an unsealed forest trail so please wear appropriate shoes/boots.
  2. This tour is not wheelchair accessible and may not be suitable for mobility-impaired travellers. Should you have any concerns about your ability to join the tour, please contact us to discuss prior to booking.
  3. The temperature of winter months in Shiga-kogen Highlands is cold and can be minus 5~10 degrees. Please be dressed in warm, waterproof clothing and boots for snow activities. There are rentals for snow outfits (snow jackets, pants, gloves, snow boots) available for 500 yen each. Please note that there is limited availability for snow outfits, so if you have waterproof, warm clothes fit for snow activities, please bring these with you on the day of the tour.
  4. There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park. In such case, an alternative activity will be provided.
  5. You are required to follow the Snow Monkey Park rules at all times. You are not permitted to touch, hold, feed or bathe with the monkeys at any time. There are no barriers separating the monkeys from visitors to the park. Please ensure you keep a minimum distance of 1 to 2 meters between yourself and the monkeys. Your guide will explain the rules prior to entering the park.
  6. This tour uses different forms of transport. Tours can be conducted by microbus, larger coach or train depending on the season and size of the group.
  7. Due to weather and road conditions in winter, the tour end time cannot be guaranteed. Those booking onward tickets to other destinations should do so for times of 6:00pm or later.

Yes. Ski jackets and pants are available for rent along with snowboots. A set of boots, pants and jacket costs 1000 yen. While there is adequate stock to cover most tours, during peak times in December and January, demand might be too high to guarantee availability. Advance reservations cannot be accepted and sizes cannot be guaranteed.
Yes. You can start and finish at different points. Should you be traveling with multiple pieces of luggage or over-sized gear such as snowboards and skis, please contact us at inquiry@trazy.com prior to booking to check whether these can be accommodated.
We cannot promise that all dietary needs can be catered to. The tour uses a restaurant in the ski resort for lunch. They can provide vegetarian options but are unlikely to be able to cater to vegan guests, guests requiring halal and may not be able to amend the menu for specific allergies.
Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible and may not be suitable for mobility-impaired guests. The tour requires a significant amount of walking – suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness – including along a 1.6km/1-mile forest trail leading to and from the park. There is also a relatively steep staircase at the end of the trail leading into the park.
