概要

Escape Bangkok's bustle and visit the Erawan Museum for a blend of culture and tranquility!

Located in Samut Prakan near Bangkok, the museum is famous for its massive three-headed elephant sculpture and stunning stained-glass dome. Inside, explore three themed floors inspired by the Hindu cosmos — Underworld, Earth, and Heaven — featuring unique artifacts and relics.

Why this museum?
  • Cultural & religious artifacts and Buddha statues to see inside, and a garden to stroll outside the museum
  • Erawan (Airavata) statue: a 39m long and 29m high bronze sculpture of a white elephant from Hindu mythology
  • Stained glass dome: representation of the story of the earth, including soil, fire, wind and water, 5 continents, 12 zodiac signs, humans and the sun

▲ Erawan Museum
Erawan Museum offers a majestic peacefulness, with a grand 3-headed elephant sculpture crowning the decade-long construction. Delicately designed pillars, decorations, and a stained glass dome impress further, while three floors themed on the Underworld, Earth, and Heaven in the Hindu cosmos house unique exhibitions of artifacts and relics.

▲ Pra Ket Chulamanee Chedi
Phra Ket Chulamanee Chedi symbolizes the celestial angel Phra Ket Chulamanee, created by the god Indra based on Buddhist The-wat Sect teachings. Blending Indian artistry with Ayutthaya-era Thai influences, the structure stands as a spiritual landmark. Buddha statues representing the days of the week encircle its base, bringing blessings to worshippers based on their birth days.

The 3 Levels of Realms

▲ Suvarnabhumi Level
The underground level of the Elephant exhibits Mr. Lek’s prized artifacts, including Benjarong ceramics. Representing ‘the past,’ it features naga, the underworld deity, symbolizing water and abundance in Buddhist belief.

▲ Human Earth
Forming the elephant’s base, this section blends Eastern and Western art, highlighted by Jacob Schwakopt’s stained glass Earth ceiling, using four colors to symbolize nature’s elements. Zodiac paintings and mythic sculptures enrich the space, adorned with over 100,000 handcrafted Benjarong pieces.

▲ The Cosmos Level
Inside the elephant’s body, this level symbolizes the universe, with murals of celestial beings guiding visitors. A German artist’s powder-colored ceiling depicts the Sun and eight stars, while the Milky Way reminds us of our place in the cosmos. A serene atmosphere surrounds the Buddha footprint and statues arranged in sacred order.
