Bosingak is where thousands of Korean people flock at midnight on New Year's Eve! The official bell tolling ceremony is held here on New Year's day, Independence Movement day(March 1) and Liberation day(August 15), and especially on New Year's day it is rung 33 times. The bell also tolls everyday at noon.
The bell inside Bosingak was originally made in 1468(the early Joseon period) to be in Wangaksa Temple, but was moved to Bosingak in 1619.
'Jongno' literally means 'bell street' and the name came from the bell in Bosingak.
