The facts

The Gwangjang Market is the first local market of Korea and continues to thrive as a popular tourist destination today. The second floor of the market has all kinds of silk, satin, linen bed-sheet stores.

Many of the stores in the area even have their own factories supplying fabrics to the Namdaemun Market, Pyoung Hwa Market, even to some department stores. Even though the goods are not brand-name products, the wide selection of high quality goods at inexpensive prices makes it an enjoyable shopping experience.

Gwangjang market is also famous for its food stalls. There are tens of food stalls in the middle of the marketplace and the most popular snacks include Bindaetteok(fried Korean pancakes) and Mayak Kimbab.

The food stalls open at 8:30am and close at 11pm. The fashion apparel section operates from 10am to 7pm.

Also, there are used clothing stores in Gwangjang market. If you are a good haggler, you can get various unique items at surprisingly lower prices. I recommend you to always pay in cash. The stores are open from 10am to 7pm and open 11am to 7pm on Sundays.

Tips : On weekday mornings, you get lower prices than at the other times.

We love this place! The Mug bean pancakes, kimchi pancakes, onion pancakes, kimbab and so much more!! A must visit for anyone visiting Seoul! We personally loved the kimchi pancakes and mug bean pancakes the most. A word of warning: Come with an empty stomach! You have been warned! Check out our blog for more details!
