The facts

Cheongok Golden Bat Cave is a natural limestone cave uniquely located in the heart of Donghae City. Discovered by chance during apartment construction in 1991, it was opened to the public in 1996. Of its total length of 1,510 meters, 810 meters are open for visitors to explore.

This cave is home to the rare and endangered golden bat and showcases spectacular geological formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and Korea’s largest ceiling dissolution hole. With a constant temperature of around 14–15°C year-round, it’s a refreshing escape in summer and a cozy destination in winter.

Multilingual audio guides are available for international visitors, allowing for an immersive and informative tour. Outside the cave, you’ll find a nature trail and wildflower park that offer a peaceful outdoor experience. Admission is 5,000 KRW for adults, and a full cave tour takes about 30 minutes. Its central location makes it easily accessible on foot or by public transport from Donghae City Hall or the intercity bus terminal.

The temperature inside the cave is cool and refreshing, making it a perfect escape on a hot day. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there's a small visitor center nearby with souvenirs and snacks. This spot is ideal for families, nature lovers, and anyone interested in geology or wildlife. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Donghae!
