The facts

Located on Chuam Beach in Donghae City, Chotdaebawi Rock is a striking coastal formation famous for its candle-like shape. It's especially renowned for its breathtaking sunrise views, where the sun appears to rest perfectly atop the rock—an image featured in Korea’s national anthem video.

The area also offers scenic spots such as Hyeongjebawi (Brother Rocks), Haeamjeong Pavilion, and the Chuam Suspension Bridge, making it ideal for a peaceful coastal walk. Admission is free, and there is a nearby parking lot with no charge.

To fully enjoy the sunrise, an early morning visit is recommended. You can also explore the nearby beach and sculpture park for a more complete experience.

Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock was absolutely worth the visit. The rock formations are unique and dramatic, and the whole area has a calm, serene atmosphere. It's not too crowded, so it feels like a peaceful escape. There's a small beach nearby and a few cafes where you can grab a coffee and enjoy the view. We went early in the morning and caught an amazing sunrise. If you're into photography or just want a beautiful coastal walk, this is a must-see spot.
