The facts

Haeamjeong is a traditional Korean pavilion beautifully perched on a rocky coastal cliff in Donghae, offering a unique blend of cultural heritage and breathtaking natural scenery. It was built during the Joseon Dynasty as a tranquil space for rest and reflection, and is known to have been visited by the renowned Confucian scholar Yi Hwang (Toegye).

The pavilion reflects the quiet elegance of Korea’s traditional architecture, surrounded by pine trees, striking rock formations, and the sound of waves.

Unlike many pavilions set near mountains or rivers, Haeamjeong stands out for its stunning seaside views. The dramatic backdrop of ocean cliffs and sculpted stones makes it a perfect spot for memorable photos.

Located near other attractions such as Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock and the Chuam Suspension Bridge, Haeamjeong is ideal to include in a half-day itinerary.

Whether you're interested in history, nature, or simply a quiet spot by the sea, Haeamjeong is worth a visit.

The structure itself is small but beautiful, with traditional wooden architecture and a quiet, timeless vibe. There are plaques inside with old calligraphy that hint at its history. It’s not just a pretty viewpoint, but a place with real cultural depth.
I came around sunrise and it was magical. Very few people were around, just the sound of waves and birds. The light over the sea made everything glow.
