Kim Gwang Seok was a folk singer who passed away in 1996. This mural street is a cultural hub for his music and his life. If you love art, culture, and music this place is for you. People of all ages can be seen here all day long taking photos and having a good time together.
As a nationwide-known folk singer/songwriter, he was actually extremely influential and famous for ‘portraying individuals sorrow and frustration at a time when society was struggling in its early stage of democracy following rapid industrialization.’ In other words, his music mainly expressed the voice of his people’s social issues.
To celebrate his life and his music, this small mural road was built in 2010 where you can listen to his music all during the day, enjoy the colorful murals, chill out in one of the many unique cafes, step inside an indoor art gallery, and of course, see live BUSKING. Not only is this one of the 100 must-go places by Korea Tourism, his song titled ‘Although I Love You’ was re-made into Swedish by singer Andreas Sandlund.
