Bongsunsa Temple, located in Namyangju, was first established during the 10th century and was initially called Woonaksa. However, Queen Jeonghee expanded the temple to a total of 89 units and named it Bongsunsa.
Although the temple was used especially as a venue of education for young adults, it went through a great deal of trial as it was constantly burned and reconstructed throughout multiple wars. Especially damaging war was the Korean War when basically the entire temple was caught on fire. Most of the buildings in Bongsunsa Temple are reconstructed.
