Tha Phae Gate is the east entrance to the Old Town area within the city of Chiang Mai. As initially the only gate to the fortress built to protect the city from Burmese invasion, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Chiang Mai. It was reconstructed from 1985 to 1986 to recreate the historical look it once had in the ancient days.
Tha Phae Gate is surrounded by and center of many interesting sites, activities, and festivals that perfectly embody the local Chiang Mai culture. Some of its noteworthy activities and festivals are its famous night market and Chiang Mai Flower Festival which happens in February. With it being such a significant and iconic location of Chiang Mai, Tha Phae Gate is hard to miss.
