House of Opium Museum is located in Chiang Saen Ancient City in Chiang Rai and it is a small museum dedicated to showing the opium production history of the northern Thailand area. If you are interested in the illegal drug trade of the Golden Triangle, this is a good museum to visit!
Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos are one of the major countries in the world that cultivate opiums or poppies. The latex from the poppy bulb are made into morphine and then further on into heroin, an illegal drug. Throughout history, the locals of the northern cities made money by selling the illegal drug and unfortunately getting addicted to it.
At the museum, you can learn how the illegal drugs are made, used, and distributed. You will able to see the unfortunate lives of locals getting addicted to the drug and the money they receive from illegally selling the drugs all around the world.
