Located in Gapyeong, Jarasum Island is an island formed on the Bukhangang River as a result of the construction of the Cheongpyeong Dam in 1943. The name is derived from the fact that it faces a hill resembling a "Jara", which means soft-shelled turtle in Korean.
There are four islands called Dongdo, Seodo, Jungdo and Namdo as well as various leisure and park facilities in Jarasum Island.
The island Seodo is also the filming location of the popular drama "Iris". Additionally, there is a car camping site, eco-cultural park with a grass plaza of over 100 meters in diameter and an ecosystem theme park called Ehwawon Garden. The annual Jarasum International Jazz Festival is also held on this island.
