Dae Jang Geum Park is located in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, about an hour drive from Seoul. Dae Jang Geum Park is one of the biggest and well preserved filming sites for the shooting of some famous Korean historical dramas such as Dae Jang Geum, Prince of the Legend, Lee San Wind of the Palace, The Great Queen Seondeok, Moon Embracing the Sun, Kang Chi, the Beginning and most recently The Scholar Who Walks the Night. Since the park site is relatively big and wide, various filming of Korean movies and commercials have taken place.
The park became popular after the drama, ‘Dae Jang Geum’ hit in Korea. The drama is about a woman who becomes a successful cook at the palace by overcoming all the hardships of sexism and social hierarchy system during Joseon dynasty.
At the park, you can see the old days of house buildings of Korea. Through looking at those artificially built houses, you can have a chance to understand various kinds of living styles of Koreans back in the past. In fact, based on the social hierarchy, Korean people had to wear different clothes, lived in different house, and even ate different food. You can check this out at the park.
Additionally, you can try some of the traditional Korean clothes known as, ‘Hanbok’. You will fall in love with the beauty of the fabric and design of Hanbok. Also there are special photo zones where you can take pictures with your favorite Korean actors.
