Keunneolgwe cave is a refuge of those who escaped their villages during the Jeju April 3 Incident in 1948. Under the false accusation from the central government of South Korea that they were (pro)communists, innocent civilians had to hide themselves in caves from armed forces dispatched to Jeju island. About 60 people stayed in Keunneolgwe, but the cave was exposed to the dispatched soldiers and everyone was persecuted. Bones with small households were discovered in the caves around early 2000. Currently, the entrance of Keunneolgwe is locked up to preserve the evidences.
