The facts

Baekjoilsonjimyo, or the tomb of the offspring of 100 Grandfathers, is a tomb that holds the remnants of 132 silenced lives as a part of the wave of massacres on the Jeju April 3 Incident. In the summer of 1950, these 132 people who had been arrested for alleged illegal political activity were mass-slaughtered at the ammunition dumpsite at Althr Airfield.

In the summer of 1957, the bereaved families sought the remains of their loved ones but in a mass of indistinguishable bone parts. Since they could not distinguish identities of bones, they decided to bury the remains in one tomb and named the Baekjoilsonjimyo. Every year on July 7, the families and their descendants gather together to pay their respects to their wrongfully persecuted ancestors.
