Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival, also known as Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, is by far the most popular and the largest cherry blossom festival in Korea, which takes place in a city called Changwon, the southern part of Korea every April 1st to 10th. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people flock to the festival to enjoy the beautiful scenery that the endless cherry blossom trees and falling cherry blossom petals make.
The festival started in 1952 as a small ceremony to commemorate Admiral Yi Sun-shin, a Korean naval commander who saved his country from Japanese invasion in 16th century. However the 10-day festival became a nationwide famous spring festival year after year with its beautiful cherry blossom scenery.
During the festival, a variety of programs including a series of cultural events and performances, and street food market take place. Some of the popular nearby destinations to visit include Yeojwacheon Stream and Gyeonghwa Station.
