The facts
There are many legends about the origin of Jeju. The most famous legend is the Samsung legend. Long time ago in Jeju, there weren’t any people. Suddenly under the land, 3 demi-gods (Yang ella, Bu ella, Ko ella) emerged with a big light. So there became 3 holes on the land. They were healthy and smart and so they found Tamra country.
One day at Yeonhonpo, they found a big wooden box which had 3 Byeokrangguk nation princesses, the vassal from Byeokrangguk, many treasures and some livestock. The vassal told them
"A few days ago, the king of Byeokrangguk nation saw a big light and he prognosticated that in Jeju, great heroes were born. So please accept these and make a great nation with three princesses."
So Yang ella, Bu ella and Ko ella got married to the three princess.
After the marriage, they decided to make 3 villages. So on the top of the Halla mountain, they shoot an arrow to decide where to live and the arrows fell at the stone called Samsaseok. Samsaseok is the 4th Jeju Monument. It’s meaningful because it’s the first village.
