There are many legends about the origin of Jeju and one of them is Grandma Seolmundae. Grandma Seolmundae is a daughter of the Great Jade Emperor. The Great Jade Empero r prohibited intervention in world of human beings. But she opened the sky and landed secretly. Because of her selfish behavior, her father got angry and made her go down to the land. But she had the courage and determination to rise above the deportation because she loved the land people so much. She was really big so she was able to make the Jeju Island. Jeju people asked Grandma Seolmundae to build a stone bridge across the Jeju sea. She asked the people to make silk underwear for her. So Jeju's people draw silk, but It wasn’t enough to make it for her because she was too big. And Jeju people failed to draw enough silk. And thus she stopped building the bridge as well. In Ungangmeacogi, you can see the traces of building the bridge. There really is a stone cape that reached to the sea. And there is a beautiful sea view. It's really good for driving or you could stroll down the stony cape imagining Grandma Seoulmundae
