The facts

Don Charly has been hailed as the best Mexican food in Korea for some time now. They started off selling tacos and burritos in a closet sized restaurant in Gyeongridan, but have since moved on to bigger and better premises around the corner. This second location of Don Charly's has seating for about 25-30 people and is a great spot to grab a few drinks and share some food with your friends.

The menu here concentrates on Mexican Tapas. Real Mexican fare, as opposed to the Tex-Mex or Ko-Mex styles which have become incredibly popular in Korea in recent times. They have aptly named it Mex-Mex and it's the only restaurant of it's persuasion in Seoul.

Main menu

The menu is a collection of Mexican style tapas dishes. No fusion, this how they eat in Mexico. They menu is short and sweet, with plenty of dishes made to share.
Popular dishes include the Conchinita: deep fried tacos topped with braised pork and Camarones a la crema de chipotle: shrimp and avocado soft tacos. They also serve up a mean Pineapple Margarita!

The new restaurant is of a decent size, especially compared to the closet sized original. Slightly gaudy Tijuana style decorations. We only had to wait for about 5 minutes before getting a seat.

There are plenty of drinks on the new menu. We ordered up two margaritas to share between us. We got the cucumber and the pineapple, both 8,000. Of the two I certainly favoured the pineapple one. It was fruity and tasty, my only complaint is that I drank it too quickly. The cucumber one didn’t sit so well with me, it just seemed like an odd flavour combination and didn’t taste quite right. They have an original flavour too which is a nice bright blue which looked great.
