Choi Sunu(1916~1984;pen-name: Hyegok) lived in this house from 1976 until his death in 1984. He was born in Gaeseong and his real name was Huisun. As a historian of fine arts and expert on museums, he worked diligently to rediscover the beauty of traditional Korean ceramics, woodcraft, and paintings. His meeting with Go Yuseop allowed him to join the Gaeseong Municipal Museum in 1943, and from 1974 to 1984 he served as the fourth director of the National Museum of Korea making significant contributions to the development of the country's museums. He also organized special overseas traveling exhibitions to promote Korean culture and arts.
Due to the redevelopment of the surroundings, the residence once faced danger of being demolished, but it was purchased in time with public donations raised by the National Trust of Korea in 2002 and has been managed by The Cultural Heritage Foundation
