eju World Cup Stadium was built in December 9th, 2001. Same with other many stadiums in Korea, the purpose of the stadium was to held a soccer match for Korea/Japan World Cup 2002. It has been praised by overseas broadcasts for its beautiful and spectacular scenery and environment around it.
After 2002, museum, water theme park are open to public as a multiplex allowing people to experience cultural leisure, being loved by public until now.
The aesthetic value of the stadium is maximized by the architecture point of view. Since Jeju island is known for its strong wind, the stadium was built 14m down to the ground to avoid the wind. It also was once got its Guiness record as 'the most beautiful stadium.' The stadium is now being used as a home for Jeju United, the professional soccer team. it can contain 30,000 people at once.
Though Jeju World Cup Stadium is somewhat isolated because it is a bit far from the core of the Jeju island, but it is not just a stadium but more like a multiplex as described above. There are spa, movie theater, a shopping mall and so on.
Furthermore, since the stadium is located very near to the ocean, there are many places to enjoy marine products of good quality for a reasonable price. It is highly recommendable for those who are planning on visiting to give it a try to eat raw fishes if you've never tried it before.
