FAQ
What is SUP?
SUP stands for Stand-Up Paddleboarding — a fun and accessible water activity where you stand (or sit) on a large, stable board and use a paddle to glide across the water. While many enjoy SUP on oceans, lakes, or river mouths, Natural Groove offers a special experience on the serene middle reaches of the Shimanto River. Once you find your balance, you’ll be able to gently ride the river’s calm currents, surrounded by lush, unspoiled nature — a peaceful and unforgettable way to explore one of Japan’s most beautiful rivers.
Are there any accommodations?
The facility is located within a campsite and offers air-conditioned bungalows along with a variety of rental items. Nearby accommodations can also be recommended if needed. Feel free to get in touch for more details.
Can I join even if I don’t have any gear?
Participation is possible even without a swimsuit or towel. - Towel & disposable underwear: 300 yen - Wetsuit & cold weather jacket: Rentals available from 500 yen
What is carpooling?
Carpooling in SUP means two people sharing one paddleboard. This is most common for children weighing 35 kg or less. However, larger SUP boards are also available for adult pairs, provided their combined weight is under 200 kg. These larger boards are limited, so please inquire in advance if planning to ride with another adult.
What should I wear?
A swimsuit is fine for participation, but for better comfort and UV protection, it’s recommended to wear a rash guard, leggings, and a non-cotton shirt. If these items aren’t available, rental gear is offered starting from 300 yen, including rash guards, leggings, and wetsuits. It’s also possible to join without bringing any gear, if preferred.
Are wetsuits included?
Wetsuits are not included in the tour price but are available for rent. Rental fees for wetsuits and cold-weather spray jackets range from 500 to 1,000 yen.
