Phuket is Thailand's largest island and is roughly the size of Singapore. Phuket lies in the Andaman Sea on Thailand's Indian Ocean coast located 867km south of Bangkok. Phuket is blessed with magnificent coves and bays, white beaches, small surrounding islands, hospitable people and great seafood. The next nearest province is Krabi, to the east across Phang Nga Bay. Koh Samui has been a backpacker’s destination since the late 1970s, but today the tourists come from all over the world to this casual "paradise".
