概要

Wat Bowonniwet, located in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, is a temple well known for its fascinating mural paintings that combine Thai and Western art, depicting universe. Built by King Rama IV in 1834, the temple is just 15 minutes of walking distance from Chao Phraya River and Khao San Road.

This temple is a center of the Thammayut order of Theravada Buddhism in Thailand. It is also one of the royal Buddhism monasteries where royal princes have stayed, including the current King of the Thailand, Rama IX.

As the first abbot of the monastery was Prince Bhikkhu Mongkut, who later became Rama IV, there are statues and symbols of the King Rama IV in the temple.
