Wat Traimit, known as the Temple of Golden Buddha, is one of the tourist favorites, located in the eastern part of China Town, Bangkok Thailand. Situated near Hua Lamphong MRT Station, you can easily and conveniently get to the temple.
This temple is known for the world's largest solid golden Buddha statue, which is about 5m in height and 5.5t in weight. The statue is estimated to be worth 250 million dollars.
In the past, the Golden Buddha was covered with a thick layer of stucco in order to avoid the invasion of Burma. At the time, nobody knew that the statue was made of gold. However, when King Rama III ordered to move the statue to Bangkok, the coverage of stucco was accidentally peeled off and this is how Thai people found out the truth about the Golden Buddha.
Many people visit Wat Traimit to see the Golden Buddha on the 4th floor. Along with Golden Buddha, do not miss the exhibitions located on 2nd and 3rd floors of the same building, as you will get to see the dehydrating process of the statue and displays related to Buddhism.
