Thip Samai Pad Thai (Samran Rat Branch)

Thip Samai Pad Thai, known as Pad Thai Pratu Phi or Ghost Gate Pad Thai, is one of the most famous pad thai restaurants in Bangkok. Located in the Old City, it is conveniently accessible from nearby tourist attractions such as Wat Saket or Golden Mount and the Giant Swing. It is also at a close reach from Khao San Road and Democracy Monument.

Pad thai is the national dish of Thailand and probably one of the first dishes to try for anyone who is new to Thai cuisine. Thip Samai opened almost 50 years ago and has been loved by many locals and tourists alike. The normal pad thais are great but be sure to try their signature pad thai wrapped in a thin layer of egg like an omelet. They are famous for it and a lot of people stand in line to try! Their fresh orange juice is also a must-try at Thip Samai. It's very popular and goes well with pad thai.

There is almost always a long line in front of the restaurant but the waiting is usually not too long and moves quite quickly. Please note that there is an additional fee of 10 THB per person for taking a seat in the air-conditioned area.

You can easily get to Thip Samai from Democracy Monument. From Democracy Monument, walk straight towards King Rama III Memorial following Ratchadamnoen Klang Road. At the intersection where Ratchadamnoen Klang Road and Maha Chai Road meet, turn right and keep on walking straight down. You will see Thip Samai on the opposite side of Wat Saket.

You can also get there by San Saeb canal ferry. Get off at Phanfa Bridge Pier and walk straight down until you reach the part where you can cross the canal at Bamrung Muang Road. Cross the canal and turn right until you see Thip Samai with a bright red sign.
