概要

Wat Yai Chai Monkol is also called Wat Yai Chai Monkhol or Mongkhon and means The Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory. It is located out of the Ayutthaya island and it takes a few kilometers southeast of the center of the city. This temple was built in 16th century as the home for monks who returned back after studying from Ceylon which, is Sri Lanka now.

There are two landmarks at this temple and those two make the city of Ayutthaya more popular with both local worshippers and foreign tourists. They are the tallest chedi and reclining Buddha.

Chedi situated in the middle of the temple is 72 m in height and visible to all who approach the city from the east. It is surrounded by hundreds of seated statue of the Buddha.
Reclining Buddha image is held sacred and often grants the wishes of faithful Buddhists who come to pray.
