The National Gallery in Bangkok is a historic building located on Chao Fa Road near Khao San which houses a wide collection of traditional and contemporary Thai arts and paintings. The building used to be home for the Royal Mint of Thailand and was converted to the National Gallery by the Fine Arts Department of Thai government in 1974.

For those of you who are more acquainted with national galleries in the US and Europe, the National Gallery Bangkok may seem a bit mundane and difficult to fully appreciate the artworks as there are hardly any descriptions for each artwork. But there are some more interesting exhibitions such as artworks of previous and present kings of Thailand and contemporary art exhibitions.

Also, the gallery hosts weekend 'art markets' where all kinds of artworks are sold by local artists during February to June every year.

Being conveniently located right near Khao San Road and other tourist attractions such as the Grand Palace and the National Museum, it is very easy to get to the National Gallery Bangkok.

You can get to the National Gallery by taking the Chao Phraya Express Boat to Phra Arthit Pier. From the pier, turn right and follow Phra Athit Road until you reach Pin Klao Bridge. Turn left at the bridge and walk straight down for about 2 blocks along Chao Fa Road until you see the National Gallery on your left.
