Information

概要

A "haenggung" is a temporary shelter that the king and royal family would retreat to during a war. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in Suwon is the largest of these and was used by the Joseon kings during King Jeongjo's time. It was reconstructed following damage during the Japanese Occupation.

Besides being used as a shelter, the king would also stay in the palace during trips to worship at his father's tomb, hold a feast for his mother's 60th birthday or hold special events.

Special performances like the Jangyonyeong guard ceremony and a martial-arts display are held at the front gate from April to October. The location is also known for being the shooting place of the popular drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds", which stars Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung.
