Koh Samae San or Samae San Island is a beautiful holiday destination located in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province of Thailand. It is one of Thailand's best kept secrets where you can see clear blue water and clean sandy beaches. The Royal Marine Corps of Thailand has been maintaining the island and it has opened up to tourists only recently. Since it is relatively less occupied by a swarm of tourists, it is quite peaceful and quiet except for the peak season so if you are visiting Pattaya and want to enjoy a nice relaxing vacation, Samae San Island is a great choice.
The island is richly covered with thick forest and boasts of having stunning view both above and under the ocean. It is a home for rare marine plants and sea turtles, making it a great place to experience diving and observe the underwater environment. You will love the beautiful and amazing scenery of the coral reef under the ocean at Koh Samae San. You can also enjoy various activities on the island such as biking, trekking in the forest, fishing, swimming and snorkeling. The island has a Natural History Museum as well where whale's bones are exhibited.
The island is within a military area so it is required for all visitors to book a boat. All foreigners must be escorted by a local so make sure to book through a travel agency to visit the island. As only a limited number of 500 tourists can enter the island per day, make sure to book the boat tickets as early as possible. Many people go to book the tickets around 5:00am when you can get a waiting number. Then, you can start buying the tickets from 8:00am. The boat tickets are 300 THB for Thais and 600 THB for foreigners.
You must bring a valid ID (passport) to buy the ticket and enter the island. Also, keep in mind that no alcohol/bikinis are allowed on the island and staying overnight is not an option.
