The Dongdaemun Mutton Refectory has been serving up real Chinese food near on a decade in the heart of Dongdaemun. Their big and tasty plates have food have become very popular with expats and Koreans looking for a more authentic flavour than the Korean style of Chinese cooking.
The restaurant is located on the second floor above a pharmacy called Dogil Pharmacy. The restaurant may not be anything fancy but looks can be deceiving as this place churns out some of the tastiest food I've ever eaten in my life. The best dish on the menu is probably the lamb skewers, they are just so tasty and tender.The staff sit there all day long making them, so I'm sure they're probably the most popular dish too. Well worth checking out after a hard days shopping.

The menu is made up of authentic Chinese dishes. There is a large variety but the following ones will appeal most to foreign palettes. The sweet and sour pork Beijing style is especially good along with the mixed vegetables. They also have lamb skewers on the menu. You’re given the coals and you cook them yourself at the table, then dip them in a dish of mixed spices. You can't leave without trying them.

I have been a fan of the Dongdaemun Mutton Refectory since my very first week in Korea. I also enjoy the name, there just aren’t enough restaurants that have the word refectory in the title. The food at the Mutton Refectory is Chinese style not Korean or Western, though the dishes we chose were always crowd-pleasers. The best dishes include the sweet and sour pork, lamb skewers and mixed vegetables.
