A new way of touring Jeju Island has become very popular recently with the opening of Olle walking trails across the island and offshore islets.
More than 15 courses are available to travel by foot around Jeju. Hikers can also visit Geomeun Oreum (guided tours only, reservation required) to enjoy the island’s unique natural scenery or walk the Saryeoni Forest Path (reservations required) to experience the peace of a quiet forest.
‘Olle’ was ‘Ora’ or ‘Orae’ in the language of middle ages, and it is believed that pure Korean word ‘Orae’ meant gate (門). Also by pronunciation ‘Jeju Olle’ has another meaning which means ‘will you come to Jeju?’ (Jeju-e olle?). the ‘Olle’ of windy island Jeju is made by basalt rock which has so many small holes in it. Moreover, it shows the aesthetics of winding stone wall road of Jeju
